A Cold Colorado Visit in December

Two weeks in Colorado is never enough time to see everyone I want to see as much as I would like to see them! Some friends, we only get a short dinner with, while others have time for day-long baking adventures, hikes, or other Colorado-type things.

This trip was rough because we were coming from Tampa where I had all my doctor’s appointments—and where I found out that the reason my foot wasn’t getting any better despite the rest I was giving it…

Birthday Month!

Anyone who knows me well, OK, maybe anyone who knows me at all, knows I'm all about celebrating my birthday in a big way. I don’t need big trips, or presents, but I do need a lot of celebrating!

A Hiking Adventure in Switzerland, Take Three

If you have ever asked me what my most favorite hike I've ever done is, then you've already heard me talk about this hike in the Jungfrau Region of Switzerland. The area has become well known for its “Top of Europe” pass that includes trains, funiculars, gondolas, and lifts to some pretty spectacular sights…

Homeowners Again

After not owning a home for almost three years, there have been a lot of reminders of some of the reasons we had decided to shift to nomadism and a home-free existence! Don't get me wrong-we love our house, and we are really enjoying feeling a bit more settled right now. We are leaning in to what this area has to offer.

Living Like A Local

We are definitely getting to experience a lot of what truly “living like a local” means!

Jim wrote about our first month here and how we are settling in here, but definitely glossed over a few of the frustrating aspects of our local life here, including the bribe culture created by corruption.

The Battle of the Bats

The first night that our beautiful and ultra-comfy couch was delivered and a swivel TV mount was installed, we relaxed into our new space for some binge watching (hello, new season of Solar Opposites). Our First Month in Marloth Park

All-in-all, we’re already quite comfortable here and making it our own more and more every day. Between the wildlife visits in our yard, evening fires, walks along the river, taking in the views of Kruger from our office window, and cooking in a kitchen with all the right tools. we’re loving our new home.

Two Weddings, Ten States, and an Amusement Park

It was a full spring in the states waiting on our temporary residence visas for South Africa and visiting friends and family. Two weddings, ten states, an amusement park, a concert, and managing to avoid covid were some of the highlights over the two and a half months we were there. That’s a lot of moving around for us. It was completely exhausting and it is not a trip that will be repeated!

Antarctica Expedition Cruise, Falkland Islands Days 14-19

This was our first day that we got to sleep in! No covid tests and it was an at-sea day so it was a good day to be lazy as we headed to the Falkland Islands. But no day is uneventful on an Antarctic expedition, and this morning after a leisurely wakeup, we passed through the Shag Rocks area. Shag Rocks is a shelf edge full with krill making it popular with all the Antarctic animals. Whales, penguins, seals, and lots of birds feed in this area. And of course, there are a ton of shags living on Shag Rocks!

Antarctica Expedition Cruise, Antarctica Peninsula Days 5 through 9

We woke up in the Antarctic Sound on the morning of day five—Kinnes Cove to be exact. AKA Iceberg Alley. And they weren't kidding. There were some impressive icebergs out our window. The expedition crew was super excited to have the opportunity to stop here because there is an abundance of wildlife and the weather doesn't usually cooperate for landings and exploring this area. Lucky us!
