Getting Settled in Vienna
Now that the Google Home is set up, it's starting to feel like “home.” Our apartment here is a two bedroom around 70m2 with a small balcony. Way more space than we really need for the two of us, but feels comfy!
We are only about 2 blocks from the “new Danube.”
(insert fact from Wikipedia)
The New Danube is a side channel built in 1972–88 on the eastern side of the Danube in Vienna, Austria. It was created to provide flood relief by containing excess water. The Donauinsel, made out of the removed material, separates the new waterway from the main channel of the river.
It’s pretty cool because it is not only for flood control but has wetlands for water quality too. The water quality in the new Danube is good and there are lots of places to swim and fish and just relax by the water.
As I said, our neighborhood is just two blocks from the “new Danube” and the 22 km island loaded with running and biking trails. This is ideal since I’ve started my half marathon training for the Vegas Rock and Roll Half Marathon in November. Vienna is the PERFECT place for training. So far, the weather has been perfect for running mid-morning (mid 60s in the morning with a high in the mid-70s by the afternoon). It is nice to not have to get up before the sun to run and it’s fun to explore a new place via a run.
Other settling in items have included getting to know the lay of the land -grocery store, fish market, veggie market, where to find good pillows, the public transportation, etc. And registering as residents in Vienna. We are officially residents!
We’ve mixed in a bit of adventuring here and there as we’ve been settling in. I’ll get a post up with some pictures soon (I know you are thinking, what? Carrie, taking pictures, no! hahaha!).
