Kenya: Diani Beach

After many beautiful days getting up early to see the animals, and staying up late to eat and socialize, we were ready to spend three days at Diani Beach in a vegetative state.

Diani Beach is made up of 20 km (12 miles) of picture-postcard-perfect white sand along the Indian Ocean. It is a gorgeous location with warm sunny days and flat calm water for swimming to the sandbar/coral reef, snorkeling, paddleboarding, etc.

But we weren’t up for doing anything that involved more than walking from our shaded loungers to the water to dip our toes.

Instead we spent three days sitting with the infinity pool on our left, palm trees and monkeys to our right, and the ocean spread out in front of us. We watched locals wander by with camels to ride or selling small keepsakes. I even made time to vote in our local election back in Florida (because, you know, β€˜Merica).

Dinner by the water each night was perfect to watch the full moon rising over the water while we were there. None of us were getting up to see the sunrise though! We were happy to have a few days to sleep in and enjoy our coffees. (OK, I may have been up early enough one day to crawl out to the deck chair to watch the sunrise. 😊)

It was the perfect ending to our weeks on safari. I feel so fortunate that my mom and Kel were able (and willing!) to join us on this adventure in Africa. I can't wait for them to visit us in South Africa and explore our new home there. Jim and I love sharing our travels with family and friends. I'm so lucky my mom loves to explore and has met us in so many places in the world (like Austria) and that Kel has joined the three of us in Switzerland, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa. Covid canceled our plans for a meet up in Barcelona and Colombia, but I'm glad we are back in track for exploring again and even planning some hiking with them in Switzerland this fall.

We had our covid tests in the most scenic spot yetβ€”it's going to be hard to beat this view for future covid tests!

INTERESTED IN DOING THIS?

We’ve had several people already asking us about our itinerary or how they can do something like this. For this trip, and all our prior African safari trips, we worked with our travel agent Casey at Mango African Safaris. She has always listened to what we want and put together an itinerary that suited us perfectly, so we highly recommend Mango.
