Final Preparations

Dorian's forecasted path as of August, 31st, 11am. The blue arrows point to our house.

We’ve been sweating a bit these last few days as we watch the development of Hurricane Dorian in the Caribbean. As we are now just a week away from departing our home in Bradenton, Florida, all kinds of bad ideas were occurring to us. What if we had a roof leak or flooding right before we left? What if the estate sale had to be delayed? What if our flight next Saturday is canceled?

Of course, there’s little we can do about these things so we tried to take it in stride and not get too worked up about it. And as I write this, I see that the most recent forecasts for the storm have it staying far enough east that we may not get any impact at all, or only a weak tropical storm at worst. Of course, the forecasts change every few hours!

Everything that’s not going in a suitcase is in this 5x5 storage unit.

The woman running our estate sale came by last night to take pictures she’ll use to advertise the sale. We’ve been working hard to get everything we’re keeping into our tiny 5x5 storage unit and we’re pretty much done. Of course, there are a few items we're actively using that won’t go in until the last possible moment, but otherwise we are done. It's strange to look at the storage unit and realize that’s it, everything we will own a week from now.

There's still things to be done but the end is now in sight and the things left to do get easier and easier. I’m sure the last few days will be a small storm of things we only realize in the final hours before departure, but we are excited about wrapping things up and starting for Vienna!
