Welcome to White Mountain National Forest!
August in New Hampshire is a great time of year to visit. The evenings are already starting to cool off and the daily highs are usually somewhere in the 70s. Spending seven weeks here is exciting because I grew up only two hours away. And like most places you live, you're busy living your everyday life (work, school, work, school, work, school). Who has time to escape for more than a weekend, or a week at most, and really explore a place two hours away?
We had planned to save traveling in the US for when we're “old” figuring that we'll be less inclined or able to go to the faraway exotic places. But thinking about it now, I worry I won't be able to enjoy all the National Parks and outdoor spaces like I do today. My body can handle ten miles hikes multiple days a week right now. Will it twenty years from now?
In any case, the choice of country was made for us, so here we are in the White Mountain National Forest. Stay tuned for more reminiscing about the woods of my childhood and lots of fun exploring. And if you end up in the area, let me know so we can meet up for a (socially distant) hike, some apple picking, s’mores by the fire, or dip in a swimming hole!
